An Auctioneer is a recognized professional under relevant laws in Nigeria whose business is selling of moveable and unmovable goods through open competitive bids to the highest bidder at the fall of the gavel.
 

To become an auctioneer in Nigeria , you must not be below 21 years of age and not have been convicted of felony or fraud related offences , not insane or bankrupt. Must possess a minimum of a diploma , University degrees and attend any of the following recognized Auctioneers training program:-

1 . Basic Professional Auctioneers Course of the Certified institute of Auctioneers
 
2 Advanced Diploma in Property Auctioneering of the University of Ibadan Consultancy
 
3.   CIAN Approved University degrees in Auction Education
There two type of commonest form of  auction business in Nigeria.
1. Live Auctioneers. They are Auctioneers that stand in front of crowd of potential bidders in an open place  to call bids .. They  conduct auction off-site, on-site or work inside an  auction house  .  
2. Online Auction companies. .  They are  internet based auctioneers .
There are three grade of membership in the institute
 
1. Associate
2. Full Member
3. Fellow
 
Fellowship . This is the highest grade of professional auction qualification in Nigeria. It  is awarded to distinguished auctioneers annually on recommendation of  at least 2 existing fellows . They are entitled to use the disgnatory letters of FCAI after their names and all official documents
 
Full Member. These are individual with sufficient experience not less than 5 years as practicing auctioneers in Nigeria . They are entitled to use MCAI designatory letters after their names and all official documents. Most associate upgrade to become full after 3 years on associateship grade
 
Associate… Holders of CIAN Professional Auctioneers Courses , advanced Diploma in Property Auctioneering, Bsc , LLB etc duly certified having passed the auction multiple choice questions exams of the institute.

Yes , there is corporate membership scheme whereby recognized auction companies are certified

Step 1. Ensure your company is duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria
Ensure at least one of the company directors is a recognized auctioneer by the institute ( attach CIAN membership certificate)
 
Step 2. Obtain / download Corporate Membership Application form from the institute website.
 
Step 3. Complete the Corporate Membership Application form and attach all relevant document  

Yes , CIAN Members attend yearly international conferences, workshop and seminars in the United States of America, South Africa, United Kingdom etc around the globe . Dates are always published to members
